Mini Cooper S

Our MiniS looks just like that.

We have a new car!

Story goes like this: The AC in my car, the Dodge Neon Highline goes down the drain. We have it checked out. Almost $1,000 to have it fixed. Not worth it, it was a second hand car which had originally cost me “only” $5,000 (bought it at 68,000 miles and now, after 3 1/2 years it’s at 96,000 miles). I had taken good care of it and some parts have been replaced, like new tires and battery too. But I do not want to invest another $1,000 into it at this point.

So we think, get a new, second hand car for me. Check it out online, see a really nice Cougar in silver for $10,000. Worth a look. We go to CarMax and drive it - well, I like it, but Bear does see a few flaws with it (not sure how much the later part of the story made this flaw bigger or not in his mind) and so we continue looking around on the lot.

We’ve seen the Mini Cooper S already when we first entered the car place, it was one of the dominantly displayed cars. Just for fun Bear told me to sit into it and see if I like it. Yeah, I like it, even though I could not drive it because it’s not an automatic but a stick. Then I say, sure thing, if this is the car you want, and I know you looked at it already several times, we can do that, fine with me. It’s more then double than we thought we MIGHT spend on a car for me, but it IS a really cool car and Bear was shining worse than a fully lit X-mas tree - who could resist something like that?!! Of course he promised he’ll teach me now how to drive a manual shifted car (he better teach me now :shade_smirk:.
So, now we have a new car. Well, it had already 11,000 miles on it, so technically it is not really a new car, that was the point which put it into an affordable price range for us. My Dodge gets sold - it seems that Duncan will buy it for $1,000 - and I’m driving the Suzuki until we find time to groove me in on the Mini Cooper.

Boy, I’d love to have the built-in GPS (it’s HUGE) - but the price tag of $1,700 just for THAT plus the fact that then the new iPod Adapter can’t be built in makes it instantly clear that I don’t really need such a thing. Much rather the iPod Adapter - that is way cool: hook it up and you can access all via the normal car radio and CD knobs (e.g. on the backside of the steering wheel you can set loudness and/or jump channels/songs etc.).

So now we are sharing 2 cars with each other, no longer my car versus your car, it’s just our cars.

  1. When tracking today my referrer list I saw that this posting is listed at VW Mini Cooper which I thought kind of funny (no, it wasn’t me who listed it there).

Driving UPDATE: we still love the car. The iPod Adapter is installed plus an additional tray below the steering wheel (great for cellphones, sunglasses and such). Bear DID teach me how to drive it, so now we again can split long trips. And, we also put on a personalized license plate: FanZon which just fits the car ;-)
