Kitchen remodeling

Finally tackling this project.

Emptied yesterday the kitchen and starting to zone it in – as it is an open kitchen, it will be difficult to keep traffic (people and cats) out.

12:23:04 – The “grapes” are down. This was a very confining border along the ceiling, making the kitchen look lower and smaller than it actually is. Took me about 2 hours, standing under a splurting steamer to get it all off. Even set the alarm off when I got to close, not thinking that the alarm could react not only to smoke but also to heat (of the steam). But it is off! And the kitchen already looks friendlier. Now I need to charm “the guys” (Bear and Trey and maybe Steve) into helping me preying off those ceiling beams, somebody put a lot of nails into them to keep them up!

WonderfulIt has happened, it has occured: it’s a product. Well, minus the isle to be build.

    Kitchen finally looks great.

Took forever too. Once the last test color was dried, it became obvious that it won’t work out, it made the wood look ugly, wh…

To color or to mute10:15:00 – This is becoming harder and harder. It’s a new experience for me, to be this indecided on color, this usually being my ’strong’ field. River Bank definitely ties in better with the counter tops. But it seems that it might not be as …

It will be ending, the question is only when14:00:00 – Okay, the ceiling is done and looks just fine now in Ground Ginger. That was worth the added effort. I am still uncertain if I am really happy with the wall in Tate Olive, because it does not tie in perfectly with the counter tops. Bear is o…

Ongoing color battle8:00:00 – Neverending story it seems. First I woke up at 4 am with a pounding head and after that only slept sporadically. Having a lot of color dreams. So I put a patch of color up onto the ceiling this morning, just to be sure it’s okay and sure e…

Color woes10:30:00 – The day started off with a migraine building, which is not a good sign. Oh well. Furthermore, the color just doesn’t work in our kitchen, it looks like a bright mint.

Which means I will need to repaint. Fun, fun. But as I will live in…

Color21:00:00 – Worked today (some video shooting at Foss), thus could start only later in the day with painting. Started to do the breaking in. Not sure if I like the color, somewhat seems just too minty. Will need to see tomorrow morning during daylight.

Gone is the Popcorn14:40:00 – The ugly popcorn is gone!

It was a drag to do, but worth every drop of perspiration, even the piece of ceiling that flu into my eye – it passed goggles and contact lenses and made it straight onto the soft surface. What fun to drop every…

Next step15:00:00 – 2x mudding, patching and sanding. Walls are fixed and all looks ready to take on the color. Hopefully 2 layers of color will do it.

23:00:00 – The ceiling has it’s 2 coats and looks nice. Of course one sees some little flaws, but still…

Slow but steady13:00:00 – The beams are down. Less of an hassle than I thought they would be. Only a few dents into the ceiling which will be easily fixed.

18:05:30 – All packed and wrapped in plastic. Ready for the horror #2: scrape down the popcorn ceiling.
