Blog via eMail

With b2, my former blogging software, I used to like posting via email to the journal. This was much faster than opening a web browser, logging in and write in the small window provided by most browser (the exception here of which I know being OmniWeb), save and publish and get out again of the browser.

But now, with WordPress it does not seem as fun and convenient: it always posts as admin and always posts to the same category plus spammers could write to it too, if the email account gets found out.

The last 2 points get addressed in another hack, one can select a different category and it will only allow known email addresses to post - but (my 2 big beefs with it) are not handled: I can post to only 1 category at a time plus it still always posts as admin.

Now I am considering to hack something myself, trying to incorporate the old, b2 mail hack.

  1. Well, after digging up the b2 email stuff, I realized that there I also could only blog to 1 particular category at any given time. But I could blog AS whoever I was for login/pass. Aside of this, this here works quite well - the thing what doesn’t work though are the photos and/or files. It does not generate/upload the images. Bummer. I was hoping to blog from my phone and to be able to send images from the road, now it seems that I need to debug stuff first.
