Miller’s are moving
Today was the beginning of Miller’s exodus from Kansas to Colorado. Miller’s means Jenny [Bear’s sister], David [her husband], Amy [12-year-old daughter] and Kathy [9-year-old daughter], 3 cats and 1 dog (the hamster passed away conveniently a week ago and will not need to go through this hassle). Duncan, the 18-year-old boy (or is he already 19?) is staying here. Only a few weeks ago did he move into the dorm of his college. So he is set.
When I say exodus, I MEAN exodus. When we arrived, it appeared to me they hadn’t even began packing. Of course this impression was wrong, but there is A LOT of stuff if your whole family consists of packrats and you haven’t moved in the past 10 years plus have never undergone a CLEAN SWEEP.
Many people stopped by during the course of the day and gave a hand at packing and at moving and things began lightening up!
Probably the funniest moment was when 4 guys tried moving a freezer up the tight and 90-degree angled steps from the basement and just couldn’t lift, move nor get that beast any further - until - until Bear opened the freezer door and a 1/2 of a cow came tumbling out, burgers and steaks and legs and whatnot! After turning intelligent and unpacking the freezer of all this stuff, they finally where able to get that monster up the stairs and out. And then there was a second freezer - which they couldn’t unpack, because THAT freezer needed defrosting desperatedly - so up the stairs with ice cream and other ughh, old stuff stuck solidly to it. Though this all became a feast for the 3 cats once it began defrosting in the yard and a broken pack with liver in it began dripping it’s red sauce all over it. Was I glad it’s not my house and I need not cleaning it all!

Yesterday we had the second day (afternoon) of helping. Sunday we where spared, but Jenny had a lot of good friends stopping by and giving a helping hand. When we arrived yesterday (Monday), the complete upstairs was impeccably empty and cleaned. Tomorrow, after Wombat Studios’s meeting with the Chiefs, we will drive up to Trinidad (oh goody, over 600 miles) to help UNLOADing that beast of a 52 feet trailer.
