Back to Dance

It’s taken me 7 years - and I am so excited to have found a ballet school which seems okay for me to get again involved. I really, really missed it so much - did classic ballet since I was 14 and jazz ballet since I was 16 and begun with modern ballet somewhere inbetween. Throughout my life I loved doing it, even though there had been some ‘holes’ of inactivity inbetween. But before moving to the US, I was quite fit and in form, went regularly about 5 hours a week to training (jazz only) and I remember how astonished my then boyfriend had been when he realized how firm my stomach muscles where - hard as stone, was his comment then.

7 years computer, fast food and ice cream did NOT help nor improve that!

Found this school through my neighbor Liz - sometimes such neighborly chats do bring something positive - and the classes are not too expensive, it’s only 10 minutes away by car and the drive at the school is good.

My only hesitation is their weighing on tap dance - I’ve never done that and it’s somewhat okay for me, but not THAT interested. The class is 50% tap and 50% jazz. Went today for a test class - the class is not a beginners and of course it was utterly taxing - but fun. It’s definitely a good workout and gets you off your feet and moving. About 1/2 way through the tap class the teacher half stated and half asked me - in front of all others - I am getting already back into it, yeah? When I answered that well, not really BACK into it as I never in my whole life had a tap class before, she said “no way!” And that she was sure I had already had tap classes and was now just refreshing and warming up quickly again to it. Others in the class muttered the same. OF COURSE I was flattered - I am so easy to please .

The jazz part after was totally from my heart - except that 30 minutes is such a short time to warm up all muscles and stretched extensively plus doing combo’s at the end. I like the teacher. She’s good. If she would have a sole jazz class, I’d be in 7th heaven.

She gives also hip-hop classes and told me to come tomorrow and look in and that the class isn’t more advanced than the one I had been in now. So, if I don’t die from muscle pains from today’s class by then, that is what I will be doing tomorrow: On my 46th birthday I will have my first hip-hop class ever.

Ah, you WHERE wondering how old I am after seeing all those pictures in the gallery?! - well now you know :shade_cheese:.

  1. Oh boy, did I HURT - the first day of being again able to move somewhat normally was Friday. My experience is that this will go like that for at least a month - after that my muscles should begin to normalize under the stress of exercise.
