Face On

Haha, yeah, ain’t I witty with my pun regarding the movie Face OFF. Aside of this, today we put finally – after 2 years living in this area – some faces to what before where alien neighbors. No, not just left and right, even WE manage to get to know THEM, but anything that goes beyond those 2 houses.

Went to a birthday grill gettogether of Vincent, his wife Andrea and THEIR neighbors (which are even closer neighbors to us) and Vince’s parents. I had chatted via email quite a bit with Vince and we had some things in common, so when they invited us to come over, it was kinda cool.

It’s not that we mind neighbors THAT much, it’s mostly just that we don’t WORK on getting to know them. Bear is in this respect even worse than I – when I came to the USA, he had lived already almost 2 years (I think) in the appartement up in Shoreview/Minneapolis and didn’t know ANYBODY in the whole block. I wasn’t even a month there and already began chatting with left and right. But here, having a yard between houses is already sufficient that this little bit of chat gets lost in the day to day. It is so bad, that if we do get to know somebody, I usually have to write down their names, because then next time we will see each other is something like 6 months later and I’ve forgotten the names already. Remembering names always seems to be a weak point of mine, names.

So yes, it was fun meeting them and Rob and Sid and their kids.
