Phantom of the Opera
While driving home from Heather (my chiropractor) I was listening to one of the beautiful songs from the musical The Phantom of the Opera, and it once again hit me how non-typical female I am because when talking to other of the same gender, from 9 to 64, there is this agreement of, “oh, this poor Raoul, so heart broken and so badly treated, it’s okay that he kills left and right and is one hell of a dictator and we feel so sorry for him, this love which never gets fulfilled” and so on… . I on the other hand think he is an egomaniac, righteous egotist and manipulative how he steals his way into her heart, and no, I do not like the “hero’s” character in this movie, I feel quite some disdain for him.
On the other hand I DO like the music and the era and how the film showed weaknesses of many characters. The music and her voice is what makes it memorable for me - when I was 14 I fell in love with Jesus Christ Superstar and when first watching in on the kids who were engulfed in the story which played on DVD I was not aware that the music stems from the same but during some of the songs it became quite apparent. And this fact alone made me like the film instantly quite a bit more and overcome some of my aversions to this story.
