Getting side-tracked is one of the biggest downfalls for me with the internet.

The other day I needed to work on my paper for school. As noted before, it was on the famous french painter Odilon Redon. When talking about him, you’re also inevitable going to talk about Symbolism. And when talking Symbolism, we can even show one of our (= Swiss) own : Ferdinand Hodler.

Not only was he on a Swiss coin and also his Holzfäller was on the back of 50 swiss-franc bank-notes but I used to stare at one of his big frescos in our auditorium at school. But I suddenly drew a blank if it had been at the later grades or earlier and in which school building.

Thus I began tracking it down - didn’t find an absolute answer - I was hoping to find a photo of that auditorium because it was really neat, but was unlucky in this respect, not even a note anywhere about it. But the research triggered enough of my memory to be now certain it had been in the “Ländlischulhaus” (see photo above) which I visited between 3rd and 5th grade, as that one fits the epoch and style as to where to find such a fresco.

I took hours trying to research this issue - which resulted in turning in the paper just barely before the deadline - and got side-tracked with other, famous Swiss artists and of course got once again side-tracked with my home town Baden for which I have so much love in my heart. And I found these great links, the first just talking about all the different schools there with photos and archives and really well done and the other link is the official city website, also done nicely and professionally with many interesting links showing a lot about this town - which might make it understandable why I like it so much. Of course, all these sites are in German but if you want to take a visual peak at my home town, head over to the photo series I took just a few years ago in the early morning on our last visit.

As neat it all was to find and track-down and see… I did feel this is once again such a typical incident of “losing time” with the internet and the over-wealth of data at our hands.
