Just calling to say hello…
Yesterday, while cleaning up my address book I came across 2 phone numbers of my aunt Madeleine who I love dearly.
She is over 80 and because she never made the jump to the internet our contact has diminished since I moved to the USA. With other words, we haven’t talked since the New Year of 1999-2000 when Bear and I were in Wengen, the only contact we have is when my dad gives some news or her daughter tells her about what I wrote on our family list (yes, 3 family trees and 3 family email lists which we host). So when I tripped over her phone numbers I thought why wait and I could give her a call and so I did.
Recently she is not doing that well, having some problem with her red blood cells destroying themselves and every few weeks she needs blood transfusions and now her immune system is down the drain. She is recuperating from the last downfall but only slowly and is still very weak and quickly tired.
It was a blast to hear her voice. And she was so excited and happy over my phone call. We talked about this and that and she’s very “awake” which is great to see. And even though she’s not in perfect health, her spirits are up and she says that she feels gratitude to have gotten this old and she doesn’t feel the need to be constantly patched up to reach 90.
Well, I guess I made her day… but so did she mine.
