Save the Internet : WIN

Just received a great email from MoveOn-dot-org with some real good news about the SAVE THE INTERNET campaign results. Nice! Of course it doesn’t mean the end of it all - as (very freely quoted here) LRH put it so nicely in words :

The Prize of Freedom : Constant alertness and the willingness to fight back.

And following is the story itself - a copy/paste for my own archives and for those days in the future that I mangled my brain and can no longer find the below message in my email archives:

Dear MoveOn member,

In the battle of organized money vs. organized people, regular people just scoreda huge victory.

Last Friday, after months of feeling the heat from constituents,’the Senateadjourned without passing the horrible bill that would permanently kill Net Neutrality.’Together,we dealt a blow to AT&T and Verizon’s attempt to control the Internet, and we’rewell’positioned to’push a strong’Internet freedom agenda’in 2007.’

But our job’s’not done.’Net Neutrality opponents’will try’tokill Net Neutrality in the’”lame duck” Congress—the period rightafter the 2006 elections when Congress is most unaccountable. We’must act nowto keep the pressure’up during the’election season, and one way is to registerthousands of new “Internet freedom voters.”

Can you register to vote—or get’at least’one’friendregistered to vote—as an “Internet freedom voter” today?

Here’s an easy-to-use voter registration’link:

“Internet freedom voters” are people’who care about Internet freeomand’want’their voices heard in the political process. We will keep’tallyof “Internet freedom voters” and ensure politicians’and the mediahear about it.

With Congress adjourned, AT&T and Verizon’have already begun to taketheir campaign to the states. We need to keep the heat on politicians so they rememberafter Election Day that voters demand Net Neutrality—and nothing speaks louderthan new voters marching to the polls.

If you aren’t registered, please register. If you are registered, please thinkof at least one friend to’sign up’today. We’ve provided information aboutNet Neutrality below—including the Top Ten’Examples of’GrassrootsMobilization In The Net Neutrality Fight.

Thanks for all you do as we fight to save the Internet.
