The morning of five.

In winter we don’t only feed the birds by putting stuff into a bird feeder – even though ours is an inherited – from Bear’s grandma – beauty which also the squirrels like – but I dedicate the whole deck to become one huge feeding station. I feel that at least SOMETIMES I can entertain my cats and this is 6 months perfect opportunity.

Over the past few years we have had always quite some squirrels but this year we are down on them. In exchange we have 2 red Northern Cardinals coming steadily to feast, next to the other usual array.

This morning though I really got a surprise. A few years back we had 1 Blue-Jay visit us and he would call all other birds to the table with his very, very distinctive call. Then, over time the single one became 2 and for a couple of years that was the number. Earlier this winter I detected a third one and thought this already quite astonishing. But this morning they were 5 – yes, five. Plus the two Northern Cardinals and the single squirrel.
