Not even a month after moving mStudiosTALK from ANHosting to our own server, we have decided to no longer work off our own hardware but to go with a dedicated server instead – blame the others if the hardware fails :-)
Myself, I am used to site control via the cPanel since 2001 while working for a client and since have used it much, especially recently again, and then, also mStudiosTALK was run like that. Even though I’ll miss the option to get directly into the machine with VNC, the cPanel is sufficiant and I like the idea of having the Fantastico area which makes installing toys, such as WordPress or Joomla! or some eCommerce application, pretty much a breeze, also to keep them updated. No longer needing to fight permission issues (which I constantly had since moving the server from one machine to another) will be a big relief. Keeping sites for others updated will be cleaner if not also faster. I like that!
Overall I’m really looking forwards to the change – most of it will be happening completely under the hood and not noticeable for anyone but us here. But this site, marlyse.com will be geared up and finally, finally it’s WordPress installment updated to the latest version. This will break some stuff as it has been a while. Even though it’s tempting to take the opportunity and to again create a new template from scratch, next to fixing the obvious things this will need to take a backseat – too many things going on in my life right now. I’m even tempted to go with some downloaded, free template if too much of my current site breaks – this blog will turn 6 in April and over the course of time I have made a lot of modifications which now might come and bite me. We will see.
Another night of active cats: they brought the toy on a stick to bed, got the plunger out of the sink and found another packed away kleenex. This was 1 day ago
