If there’s something strange in your neighborhood – Who you gonna call? – Ghostbusters! – If there’s something weird and it don’t look good – Who you gonna call? – Ghostbusters!
This is how I felt the other day after changing our TV room to ‘summer mode’ (TV in front of the fireplace and the room more or less rotated 90 degree clockwise). It was as Bear tried starting up the TiVo and it got stuck in the start-up phase and that is as far as it got for the remains of the evening and the next day.
He definitely is a product of a generation where TV is non-stop running, not to be watched but always present, always a background rumble, no matter what – and these many years of marriage do rub off and as much as I love NO electronics but nature instead, I have gotten used to that backdrop of sound… so yeah, what do you do, who you gonna call?
No problem in a house of geeks. Every floor is already long time ethernet wired and it didn’t take long to hook up our kitchen iMac to the HD TV and running either Boxee and/or Huluu, only a little while later you could already forget that we had (gasp) ‘no cable!’ and enjoy a movie – a little washed out and not as hi-def as usual but with control via screen sharing.
… – Who you gonna call? – Huluu! – …
Needless to say though that Bear ran out to pickup a new (normal) cable box today – we’re not sure if the convenience of TiVo will be worth the hassle of debugging and fixing the current box, one more thing on our ‘pending’ list.
