Some Luxury.

For this trip we have made most hotel reservation only a day or maybe two ahead and so far this has worked really well. So last night I did the same, booted up the powerbook and logged on and did a search. Our original goal had been to get to Grand Junction but soon I stumbled over this hotel which is in Palisade, only 10 miles further on our route. It took us barely a minute to decide that this will be our next stop, even though a bit higher in price than what we had been aiming on overall. Reservation was made within only a couple of minutes and we were set.

The road trip today – 510 miles – was a beautiful drive with wonderful vistas, but all the same the 9 hours were exhausting (especially for me, driving a “stick” car [with manual transmission] as I am mainly used to automatics). Of course I was really looking forward to the hotel, knowing it will be nice.

The address is so odd that Google can’t locate it, but it’s on I-70 exit 42 and there it was, the Wine Country Inn.

Barely checked-in we went for diner to Red Rose Cafe – not cheap but worth the money in a real nice environment. Dinner extended too long though so we missed the pool which closes at 10 pm – in exchange for this loss we treated ourselves to a Tiramisu from the restaurant and are now all comfortably camped out on the hotel bed watching some TV before going to sleep.

Tomorrows drive should be a snap.
