It appears almost as if I’m being haunted by the beautiful song (Dionne Warwick’s version) as it is everywhere:

Not only did we still have the half watched original movie on our cable DVR while the new TV series Nurse Jackie aired on Monday, featuring a drug addicted persona chaperoned by the song. But to top it off, Bear was watching Fight Club while working out today and there’s the scene when Marla Singer walks out on Edward Norton (just before he gets the chemical wound on his hand) and she’s humming this exact song.

It is a beautiful song and all by itself makes a classic out of the movie, though I never felt the movie as good as the book which I read when I was a teen

It’s not because I have written about her [Heather Armstrong] in the past, nor the amount of the cuss word she uses on her site or that she openly attacks her family’s religion (Mormonism). She has even lost points with me: I used to read her blog regularly back in 2004 but dropped her down to dribbles when she turned to the devil and the evil side and made her site to be an advertising pit. (This does not mean that I do not understand her motivation, for one it has allowed her hubby to quit his job, and hey, if you get over 300 comments per post you invest a hell of an amount of time to stay a float with the site, so why shouldn’t she make money through it?)

No, it’s none of the above. When I was cleaning up old RSS feeds of mine today I stumbled over Where is Heather and what have you done with her body? – actually an older post, close to a year ago – but the first two paragraphs threw it all back in place why I enjoy her writing so tremendously: she is funny, witty, does not fear to make fun of herself or others, has an incredible way to pace her writing and a quality in her usage of the English language which borders on aesthetics (never did I think that poop, shit and fuck could get anywhere close to this!) – I do not see her as a modern writer but as a very skilled contemporary one.

This does not make me see her through layers of pink and I do not think any less that she is killing her brain with the alcohol and the medication and that both of them could really not only benefit from some (Scientology) auditing but with it could get answers to those unanswered, shadow filled corners of their life…, that what tugs at both of them for different reasons. But hey, that’s me and I know that a lot – really a lot – would need to happen to have her take a deep breath and to try to look past her old religion, peel it away and to approach this subject as unbiased as possible. I can definitely see some possible humor in the headlines of “the ex-Mormon has found a new haven and is no longer fighting poop but aliens in the cult called Scientology” and all the fans would get bent terribly out of shape.

[addendum : this last sentence is meant to be funny; you can blame my lame writing skills if you did not get it at all, but possibly also that you are either too serious about yourself and life, not a Scientologist but probably all of the above.]

Tomorrow is the day for the new iPhone. It has been now a year and I wouldn’t want to go back to any other sort of mobile phone.

But now, it has become even more exciting because now I’m able to make the step away from my Palm and instead of having always 2 devices to carry, it will only be one.

Today we put our hands on a version 2.0 software update and of course, who could resist! For the past few hours Bear and I have been downloading freeware games and social networking and whatnot applications, playing and wasting some idle time scrutinizing all.

I also put my hands on a few items which I would not want to miss since my Palm days: dictionaries and a good German – English translator. Those 2 have been my big expenses today, but of course I also bought Things, THE todo application for me. The new phone has already built in GPS so I won’t miss TomTom too badly. Only thing missing now is a decent time tracking application… which will hopefully show up soon! Found even an okay version of the Pyramid and Sudoku.

Tomorrow, after purchasing the new phone, I will update and make my MobileMe move…

Oh, I am having so much FUN!

This is the thing that struck me when I was reading one of the COMMENTS to Ashley Morgan’s posting at UPSTART BLOGGER in regards to giving away a running, 5 letter .com domain including blog and which at this time already is producing income. Sit back and understand this! Any wolf would lick it’s claws and any small cat would purr her fur off her butt for the chance of getting in possession of such a chance!

Of course, the domain, blog, free hosting and so on are already honey drops, but when I saw that the domain and blog to win is a Wordpress showcase blog, featuring the best Wordpress powered sites, this is where I began licking my lips as if the sweetest milk had just past my nose. If you look at my categories and digg into the ASIDES, you will find that up-to-date I have posted 223 postings on the subject of WordPress alone and I’ve created all my WP themes myself and YES, I am a huge fan of WP and thus I am sniffing this faint odor of sweet, sweet milk… that would be such an honor, to win this domain and to continue running it!

Now lets see if cats can dream enough to make this one come true.
