Today is the first day of spring, 10 days to go until April and yesterday we had a small snow storm which brought 7 inches of snow. Most of it is now already again melted and the remains will be surely gone by tomorrow as it will warm up to almost 60°

Just like April tosses with the weather, being mid projects is a blessing and a curse.

On one hand it allows me to indulge into improving my own skills and my sites, but on the other hand it invites introversion and worries about future income and the stability of it.

The most annoying about this situation is that instead of getting a great head start with upgrading my sites – which invokes reach of future potential clients – it all crashes down to a slimy drag, every inch of the way a fight for it, leaving me constantly with this feeling of not having achieved enough progress.

The best I can do in such a situation is to work on playfulness and to not take it all so serious. Often easier said than done! One important step of this is to set limits: work only this specific amount of hours on development and then do something distinctively different. Because no matter how hard I try or want it, I am not able to finish it all off in one or two days and no amount of frustration about this fact will change it nor make the design any better, while on top of it, working too man hours a day on it introverts me and make me feel even more inadequate.

Oh, did I mention? My new site design is coming along really nicely.

This is definitely one of these days that I’d call an interesting day.

What began with rain and the 3rd day in a row migraine (albeit much less than yesterday), continued with a major change in work schedule; then switched to one of my favorite Panera Bread Cobblestone treats for breakfast – you can find here a great recipe for it; then it went on with organizing my new desktop computer, setting up scripts to keep the overburden of accumulation at bay; then there was the movie visit with Bear and now, with migraines gone and a wonderful dry and warm summer evening we are just about to run out for dinner

Not bad, all in all

Due to a project I am working on, I need to familiarize myself with Joomla! and this is what I’ve been doing today most of the day. After all these years of working with WordPress, it is almost a bit odd for me to dive into this world. Thrown out of my comfort zone – creating WordPress templates at this point in time is a breeze to me – I now have to dig into this one. At first the backend seems confusing and unorganized compared to other CMS applications I have looked at, but the fault was mine as I installed the first version of Joomla! with “filler data” and that made it kinda confusing. Once I re-installed an empty version and worked my way through some videos, the concept became clear and understandable. At this point I am not worried about setting up Joomla! nor the content, but the template and CSS is still an unknown, even though I have found a list of all classes used to style the templates (around 280 different ones!!). Hopefully in a week from now I will have it all under control.
